So, we're trying to do this compilation
CD for a new label called
Skipping Discs based out of Massachusetts. The comp is called
Love Is and is "a collection of original renditions of popular songs whose titles begin
with the words love is." We didn't want to do anything too obvious or well-known,
so we hunted around for a while until this song popped out of my memory and got our toes
tapping and faces smiling.
I first heard of The Chameleons UK through a friend in highschool who played me their
song swamp thing which completely blew me away. The combination of lush guitars,
punk rock energy, and those emotive melodic vocals really turned me on to a whole genre of
music that my previous years of straightedge hardcore fandom hadn't really prepared me for.
I don't know how "popular" this particular song is -- I don't even know whether most people
will have even heard of The Chameleons -- but shit, the title works for this comp, I
had fun sneering and yelping with that fake British affectation, and I think our version turned
out pretty cool.
Here is the original, by The Chameleons UK.
And here's our cover.
